The Plenary Session of the Arico City Council has greenlit a budget modification of 1.44 million euros. The aim is to strengthen allocations for environmental protection, emissary monitoring, public services, support for neighborhood festivals, sports, and social care. The modification received favorable votes from the PSOE and PP, with dissenting votes from CC and Arico Somos Todos (AST).
259,107 euros will be allocated to Environment, Water, and Sanitation, focusing on emissary monitoring, supply, discharge control, and sanitation services. A significant portion of the modification will support festivals organized by residents, with the council covering costs for security, ambulances, stages, restrooms, sound, and lighting.
Sports allocations will also be boosted with funds for sponsorship contracts, sports events, and physical activity programs. Additional funds are designated for social care, culture, education, and the primary sector, as well as the construction of new niches in the municipal cemetery.
This budgetary adjustment also aims to recover capacity in accounts affected by Storm Therese, which necessitated the mobilization of over half a million euros. The operation is financed by own resources from the treasury surplus.
The Plenary Session also approved the update of four tax ordinances: driveways, waste collection and treatment, Economic Activities Tax (IAE), and Real Estate Tax (IBI). All municipal groups congratulated the work done to modernize these regulations, some of which had not undergone substantial revision for two decades.
The driveway ordinance, updated since 2005, does not increase fees and incorporates self-assessment and semi-annual pro-rata. The waste ordinance, unchanged since 2007, purges the registry and links it to the cadastre, moving to an annual registry.
The IAE modification clearly defines the streets in industrial areas, enhancing corporate legal certainty. Finally, the IBI ordinance extends the bonus to environmental energy, in addition to solar energy, positioning Arico among the first Canarian municipalities to expressly include this type of energy in its fiscal incentives, with bonuses of up to 50%.
