The MV Hondius, a cruise ship that previously reported a hantavirus outbreak, has been forced to dock at the port of Granadilla de Abona, in Tenerife, due to adverse weather conditions that intensified wind and swell.

The Maritime Captaincy of Tenerife recommended the mooring of the vessel, which had been anchored until now, to ensure the safety of everyone on board and to expedite the final disembarkation process. This decision was made after a significant increase in wind force and swell in the dock area.

"The time spent in port will be the minimum necessary to guarantee the safety of passengers and members of the evacuation team."

The measure adopted by the maritime authority aims not only to protect people but also to facilitate the cruise ship's prompt departure to the Netherlands. The situation has drawn reactions from local authorities.
A spokesperson for the Government of the Canary Islands stated that the Minister of Health informed them about the Maritime Captaincy's order for the MV Hondius to dock for safety reasons due to changing weather conditions. Furthermore, they urged that the mooring operation be carried out with all guarantees and in the shortest possible time, so that the vessel can set sail for its final destination as soon as possible.
