The ancient Ere of Hermano Pedro was transformed last night into a natural amphitheater to host the 21st edition of the Night Route, a cultural initiative combining music and theater. Organized by the Culture Department, the event was a participatory success with over 300 attendees, consolidating itself as a meeting point for residents and visitors interested in the memory of the first Canarian saint.
The walk began after 9:00 PM from the main square of El Médano, following the promenade and the Los Balos ravine to reach the Ere. In this space of great heritage value, attendees enjoyed a musical and theatrical performance. The group La Zafra provided the music, while the group Thynisara performed the theater segment.
The Councilor for Culture, Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto, emphasized that the objective of this edition was to highlight water as a vital resource, rich in historical, traditional, and heritage significance, and its connection to the figure of Hermano Pedro. "The Night Route is not just a walk; it is an act of encounter and a moment to remember Hermano Pedro and reaffirm our tradition as a people," stated the councilor.
The Ere, described by Luis Diego Cuscoy as a "natural watering trough at the bottom of a ravine" used by the Guanches, was the place where the young Pedro de San José Betancur took his goats to drink over 360 years ago. This enclave has become a symbol of devotion and encounter.
With this edition, Granadilla de Abona reinforces its commitment to tradition, uniting heritage, history, culture, and citizen participation in an event that gathers hundreds of people under the night sky, referencing one of the most emblematic sites linked to the figure of Hermano Pedro.
