San Miguel de Abona Presents Patron Saint Festivities with Over 20 Activities

The program, running from September 11 to 29, includes events for all audiences, highlighting tradition and new proposals.

The Town Hall of San Miguel de Abona has unveiled the program for its Patron Saint Festivities in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel, which will feature more than twenty activities designed for all audiences and will take place between September 11 and 29.

Mayor Arturo González emphasized that the festivities are "the heart of our identity and a reflection of our people who year after year keep our traditions alive." He noted that the municipality has built a legacy combining traditional events with new proposals for family enjoyment, calling September one of the most anticipated months as it is "the meeting point for many families in the municipality."
The Councilor for Festivities, Yurena Melián, highlighted the efforts of municipal workers, groups, associations, and collaborators, stating that "behind each event there is a lot of work and dedication that deserves recognition."
The program will commence on Friday, September 11, with a lunch for the elderly at the Senior Center and the Guargazo Festival in Don Ignacio Rodríguez López square. Saturday, September 12, will feature a sports agenda including dirt slalom, motocross, and BMX, concluding with the neighborhood gathering ‘¡Ños, me supo!’.
On Sunday, September 13, the XIV Irichen Bike Point Cyclotourist event, the Canary Islands Motocross Championship, and an exhibition of classic bicycles will take place. On Thursday, September 17, Mariano González Delgado will deliver the traditional eulogy, during which the candidates for Romera Mayor will be presented.
The Grand Gala for the Election of the Romera Mayor will be held on Friday, September 18, in the church square, featuring the humor of Kike Pérez and performances by Vinomio Folk and artist Isabel González. Saturday, September 19, will host the II edition of the gastronomic festival ‘Bendita Gula’, themed around the 80s and 90s, and the Spanish BMX Championship at the Las Chafiras circuit.
On Sunday, September 20, the San Miguel Casino will host an intercultural meeting with Puerto Rico. On Friday, September 25, the San Miguel Music Band will perform alongside Delokos Sinfónicos in Don Ignacio Rodríguez López square.
On Saturday, September 26, the Eucharist and the transfer of Saint Michael the Archangel will be celebrated, preceding the XLI Romería, which will depart from the CASMI Cooperative and travel along the Carretera General del Sur and the Carretera a Los Abrigos. The day will conclude with performances by various orchestras in the square. On Sunday, September 27, the Festival for the Elderly will be held.
On Monday, September 28, a mass will be held for deceased residents in the cemetery chapel. The festivities will conclude on Tuesday, September 29, with activities for all audiences, including a family breakfast, a large paella and dance, the transfer of the banner with a fireworks display accompanied by the San Miguel Music Band, and the solemn Eucharist in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel, presided over by the Vicar General of the Diocese, followed by a procession.
