The healthcare center in Gran Canaria has become the starting point for 69 healthcare professionals embarking on their specialized training. These new doctors will join various care areas to complete a training program lasting between four and five years, depending on their chosen specialty, as reported by the Ministry of Health.
Of the residents commencing this new phase, six will specialize in Mental Health and four in Occupational Medicine. Their arrival not only expands the staff but also strengthens the teaching activities of Doctor Negrín Hospital, solidifying its role as a leading center for training healthcare specialists in the Canary Islands.
During the welcome ceremony, the newcomers received detailed information about their training program, the crucial role of tutors, and the challenges inherent in their future profession. The event also featured experienced resident doctors sharing their experiences to offer a realistic perspective on hospital life, both in patient care and teaching.
The event was attended by key figures including the center's managing director, Miguel Ángel Ponce González; Head of Studies, Juan Morales González; Specialized Health Training technician for the Canary Health Service (SCS), María Teresa Martínez Ibáñez; and the resident tutor for the Allergology department, Hilda Rianec Hernández, among other professionals.
Additionally, neurophysiologist Octavio Jiménez Vega delivered a talk on the 'Practical Manual of Clinical Electromyography,' a publication resulting from the collaboration between attending physicians from the Neurophysiology section and resident interns from the hospital itself.
The specialties being reinforced by the arrival of these new professionals include Psychiatry, Psychology, Pharmacy, Allergology, Cardiology, Digestive Diseases, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Radiodiagnosis, Urology, and Anesthesiology, among others.
Doctor Negrín Hospital is not only dedicated to training specialists in various healthcare fields but also actively collaborates in training doctors for Family and Community Medicine and participates in teaching programs for specialists from other hospitals in the Canary Islands, the rest of Spain, and even abroad.
Currently, the hospital hosts a total of 232 residents in training. Specialized health training at the hospital is characterized by a balanced combination of direct patient care and teaching, allowing professionals to gain valuable practical experience while completing their academic and clinical preparation.
