The upcoming edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival, which will revolve around 'La Música' (Music), now has an official calendar: it will be held from January 22 to February 28, 2027. This was announced by the Carnival Councilor, Héctor Alemán, and the artistic director, Josué Quevedo, who emphasized that the program adapts to public requests and aims to enhance participation and television visibility.
The main events will be grouped over six weekends, maintaining the five-week celebration structure. However, the specific venues for these events have not yet been detailed, pending future announcements. 'The spaces are there, but everything in due time, it will be revealed,' explained the councilor.
One of the most significant novelties is the change in date for the Queen's Gala, which will move to Monday, February 8, the eve of Carnival Tuesday. This adjustment aims, according to the artistic director, to kick off the 'street carnival' immediately after the crowning, marking the official start of the popular festival.
Other modifications include the Drag Queen Gala, with its pre-selection on Friday, February 12, and the main gala on Friday, February 19. The Grand Parade is also brought forward to Saturday, February 20, separating it from the weekend of the Burial of the Sardine (Sunday, February 28), with the goal of balancing the intensity of weekend events. A potential change to the parade route is also being considered for the section before Santa Catalina Park.
The Gala of the Great Lady will also change days, taking place on Friday, February 5, instead of Sunday. The weekend of February 6 and 7 will host the adult costume contest and the canine carnival, respectively.
The festivities will officially commence on Friday, January 22, with the announcing parade and the opening speech. Saturday, January 23, will feature the choreographic festival and the children's murga contest. As a novelty, Sunday, January 24, will see the return of the children's comparsa contest, with six participating groups.
The murga contest phases will run from January 25 to 28, followed by the adult comparsa competition on Friday, January 29. The murga final will be on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31, will host the children's throne event. The young carnival participants will also have their children's parade and day carnival on Tuesday, February 9.
The senior carnival will take place on Sunday, February 21. Submissions for the festival's poster will be accepted until July 22.
Regarding artist bookings, it was highlighted that 80% to 85% will be Canarian artists, with the inclusion of about 11 or 12 international artists managed through local production companies. The artistic director, Josué Quevedo, expressed his desire to feature singer Quevedo, although Councilor Héctor Alemán limited his comments to stating that details are being evaluated.
Finally, it was announced that the carnival has obtained the Eventsost certification, recognizing the implementation of a sustainability strategy in its organization, including improvements in waste management, free water access points, recycling promotion, energy efficiency, and reduction of the environmental impact of programmed activities.
