The union Comisiones Obreras de Canarias has provided assistance to 898 immigrants during the recent regularization process, as reported by its general secretary, Vanesa Frahija Betancor.

Since early April, even before the official approval, the response from the foreign population in Canarias was significant. CCOO closely followed the regularization procedures for those who approached the union for information and expediente tracking, a process that concluded on June 30.
Of the total 898 individuals assisted, 706 proceeded with their applications. The demographic profile shows a slight majority of women (53.7%) compared to men (46.3%). The most frequent countries of origin were Colombia (274), Venezuela (128), Paraguay (99), Senegal (54), Peru (56), and Honduras (37). Assistance was provided in person across Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, and El Hierro.
For CC OO Canarias, the true achievement of this initiative extends beyond mere numbers. The union underscores its contribution to improving the lives of hundreds of individuals, who can now access the labor market on equal terms and under the protection of Spanish labor law.
The union announced it will continue to support immigrants throughout the expediente resolution process by the State. CCOO views this regularization as a significant step forward in combating the underground economy and labor exploitation, persistent issues in Canarias where thousands work without adequate protection.
The organization calls upon the Canarian employers' association to facilitate the labor integration of these individuals, reminding that those who have regularized their status were already living and working in the islands. Now, they can do so with full rights, contributing to the Social Security.
CCOO Canarias reaffirms its commitment to building a more just and inclusive society, free from exploitation, where the rights of all individuals are respected regardless of their administrative status.
