A young man was arrested early Sunday morning in the Puerto area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after committing an attempted assault and an attempted robbery, ultimately being detained by several citizens.

Agents of the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria initiated a pursuit of an individual around half past two on Sunday morning. The young man, wearing a red hoodie, had been reported by several citizens at the intersection of Los Martínez de Escobar and Tomás Miller streets.
The officers caught up with him on Emilio Zola street. As he tried to escape, several citizens managed to detain him until the police arrived. A couple recounted that the individual had asked the woman for a personal item, and upon refusal, he threw a glass bottle at the man, although it did not hit him.
Later, another person reported that the young man had tried to steal their mobile phone on Joaquín Costa street. The robbery attempt was thwarted by the victim, who struggled with the assailant and prevented him from taking the device.
Following the events, the Local Police conducted a search of the detainee and confiscated a bus resident pass that was in someone else's name. The young man refused to identify himself and did not cooperate with the officers, so he was transferred to the National Police station for identification via fingerprint.
