A patient admitted to the Hospital Insular in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been arrested by the National Police following alleged incidents of threats and intimidation against healthcare staff.

The National Police have arrested a patient who was admitted to the Hospital Insular in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The detainee is accused of a crime of attacking public officials, following a series of alleged threats, insults, and intimidations directed at the hospital's staff.
The investigation was initiated following complaints filed by healthcare professionals from the ward where the patient had been admitted since last November. The complainants reported suffering repeated episodes of verbal abuse and intimidating behavior from the arrested individual during his stay at the hospital.
According to the testimonies gathered, the patient frequently had cohabitation problems and displayed an attitude contrary to the hospital's internal rules, creating tense situations with both healthcare staff and other patients. On several occasions, private security personnel from the hospital had to intervene to contain incidents.
Among the reported incidents, one stands out where the arrested individual severely berated healthcare professionals and another patient with reduced mobility who shared his room.
After the initial complaint, National Police officers went to the hospital to interview the individual. Despite police warnings to cease his behavior, the investigated person ignored them, persisting in his intimidating attitude. For this reason, once he was discharged from the hospital, he was arrested.
The National Police have highlighted the close collaboration between healthcare professionals, the private security personnel of the Hospital Insular, and the police officers assigned to the South District police station. This cooperation is considered essential for ensuring safety in healthcare centers and responding effectively to violent episodes.
Furthermore, it is reminded that any physical assault, threat, or intimidation directed at healthcare professionals can lead to criminal liability and will be prosecuted in accordance with current legislation.
