The Canarian Health Service has consolidated the Mejora project in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an initiative providing social and health assistance to 60 people living on the streets.

The General Directorate of Mental Health and Addictions coordinates this program, which aims to provide specialized care to highly vulnerable citizens. The team focuses particularly on individuals with mental health conditions or addiction issues, facilitating their access to public network resources.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Fundación Canaria Yrichen, began its activities in November 2025. Since then, professionals have conducted follow-ups, individual support, and direct interviews on the streets. Furthermore, the program has integrated a gender perspective, with fifteen women participating in specific sessions.
Operational deployment is carried out through mobile units that visit areas in the capital where the most vulnerable people are located. This intervention model seeks to reduce harm and improve users' quality of life through constant support and continuous evaluation of the results.
The Canarian Health Service has noted that this community care model is being replicated on other islands, such as the initiative developed in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in partnership with Médicos del Mundo Canarias. The long-term goal is to extend these actions to other municipalities across the archipelago to ensure comprehensive coverage of social and health needs.
