The Public Prosecutor's Office maintains that the accused ended the life of his partner of over a decade between the night of August 20 and the early morning of August 21, 2016, somewhere in the north of Gran Canaria. The trial will be held before a Jury Court.
According to the indictment, Ramos Quesada killed Juana Ramos 'voluntarily' and subsequently made the body disappear to conceal the crime. The victim was included in 2018 on the list of femicides by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
For the homicide offense, the prosecution seeks 15 years in prison, the maximum penalty for this type of crime, to which another two years would be added for the crime against moral integrity. Furthermore, 10 years of supervised release are requested after the sentence is served, along with €300,000 in civil liability to Juana Ramos's children for moral damages.
The accusation remains firm despite the fact that, nearly ten years after the disappearance, the body has not been located, nor has any biological trace of the victim been found, following years of searches and police investigations.
The provisional indictment by prosecutor Jesús Javier Lomba Montesdeoca details that on the night of August 20, 2016, Miguel Ángel Ramos picked up Juana Ramos from her home in La Paterna, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and they both headed towards Arucas in a Renault Kangoo van. The prosecution alleges that at some point during the journey or in the hours that followed, the accused 'ended the woman's life,' although the exact location and manner of death could not be determined.
The lawyer for the private prosecution, Alberto Hawach, will present his indictment, after which the defense will present its exculpatory thesis. The proceedings were investigated by Courtroom No. 2 of the Violence Against Women Section of the Court of Instance of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, presided over by María Auxiliadora Díaz Velázquez.
