The initiative aims to bring ULPGC's research closer to the public through participatory activities, scientific demonstrations, and encounters with researchers. Under the slogan "Tides of Knowledge," the event will cover topics such as the environment, health, technology, culture, and sustainability.
The first part of the event, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, will take place outdoors with the "Tides of Knowledge" Fan Zone, a free-access science fair. Attendees can experiment, observe demonstrations, and converse with researchers about their projects and the impact of their work.
The program includes proposals such as "Reading the Atlantic: Poetry, Sea, and Science," activities on the conservation of the Canary Island date palm (LIFE PHOENIX project), textile waste, marine litter (OpenPLAS group), chemistry, natural pigments, deepfake identification, and the use of tactile maps for visually impaired individuals.
From 7:00 PM onwards, in the Aquarium's Deep Sea room, four educational talks will be given. Daura Vega will discuss "Mercury in Tuna: Just the Tip of the Iceberg," Rodrigo Riera on the ocean's role in combating climate change in "Ocean or Be It," Marta García Cabrera on espionage in the Canary Islands during World War II in "Canary Islands, Islands of Secrets (1939-1945)," and Aythami Morales Moreno will explain artificial intelligence in "Can a Toaster Learn? Understanding AI as a Family."
Participation in the Fan Zone is free and does not require registration. The talks in the Deep Sea room are also free but require prior registration until full capacity is reached.
