The extraordinary board meeting of the Fundación Puertos de Las Palmas, convened to approve the annual accounts, was suspended an hour before its start by the President of the Port Authority, Beatriz Calzada, citing formal reasons.

The assembly, scheduled for yesterday, was called off without a new date being set for the approval of the accounts. The cancellation occurs amidst serious irregularities detected in the audit conducted by Puertos del Estado.
The accounts, signed by Beatriz Calzada on the 22nd, show a significant decrease in available funds. From the 863,521.92 euros in the current account at the start of her tenure, the current figure stands at 558,436.12 euros.
Last year, the foundation allocated 171,486.56 euros to atypical expenses. Beneficiary entities include various cultural and sports associations such as Sentir del Carmen, ACR Cargadores Virgen de la Luz, La Luz de la Naval, as well as expenses for awards ceremonies, activities for the Casa de Galicia, canonical coronation events for the Virgen del Carmen, the football team Interisleta, a half marathon, the C.F. Puerto sports tournament, Swinrun sponsorship, and projects for maritime collectors and sending bicycles to Gambia. Additionally, 15,000 euros were allocated to a Quick Painting and Photography contest, and 3,000 euros to activities for Canary Islands Day at the Museo Elder.
While some of these activities align with the foundation's objective—promoting cultural, educational, sports, and research activities within the Canary Islands' port sector—internal sources suggest these actions aim to enhance the image of President Beatriz Calzada, who may be a candidate for mayor. The foundation has reportedly abandoned emblematic projects such as 'African port women'.
In total, the foundation incurred a loss of 198,067.53 euros in 2025, an increase from the 138,660.30 euros lost in 2024. The deficit was exacerbated by the 117,265.21 euros disbursed for the arbitrary dismissal of the previous manager to make way for the current one. According to the official accounts, the foundation's average staff consists of just one person, an assistant.
