Bodega Ventura from Santa Brígida has been awarded two gold medals and one bronze at the 30th Official Wine Contest of Gran Canaria, held recently.

The wines Eidan Selección and Eidan Dulce, from Bodega Ventura, owned by viticultor Javier Ventura Alonso, have been recognized with gold medals in their respective categories. Additionally, the wine Cruz, aged for eight months in barrels, received a bronze medal.
The awards ceremony took place at the Experimental Agricultural Farm of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. It was attended by the insular president, Antonio Morales, and the Minister of the Primary Sector, Miguel Hidalgo, along with local authorities such as the mayor of Santa Brígida, José Armengol, and the Councilor for Rural Development, Carmen Juez.
Eidan Selección won in the category of young dry white wines or those fermented in barrels, while Eidan Dulce triumphed in the semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and liqueur categories. These awards highlight the winemaking quality of Santa Brígida at the island level.
The trajectory of Bodega Ventura is deeply rooted in Santa Brígida. The Ventura family has been cultivating vines for three generations in the Los Olivos area, combining tradition with modern techniques, including manual harvesting.
The contest also awarded other wines from Gran Canaria. In young reds, Agala / Altitud 1175 won gold, followed by Las Cuevas (silver) and Señorío de Cabrera 16 months of barrel aging (bronze). In dry whites, Agala / Altitud 1318 received silver. In the sweet category, Dulce Lechuza took silver and Las Tirajanas Dulce bronze.
The special mention for best image and presentation went to Boliche, also from Santa Brígida, reinforcing the municipality's presence in the awards.
The Cabildo highlighted that Gran Canaria is the only island where the vineyard surface area has increased, promoting initiatives such as the first official certified vine nursery to preserve native varieties.
In other competitions, the cheese factory Era del Cardón by Luis Martel Perdomo (Agüimes) was recognized as the Best Cured Cheese of Gran Canaria 2026, and Noelia Ascanio received the highest award in the 2025 Gran Canaria Honey Contest for a sunrose honey.
