The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has launched the first edition of its «START ULPGC» program, bringing together more than fifty individuals with entrepreneurial aspirations.

The program, funded by the Canarian Employment Service, has begun with two sessions dedicated to idea generation and identifying opportunities for innovative projects. Participants will receive specialized training and advice and can compete for two prizes of 1,500 euros awarded by the ULPGC Social Council.
The initiative primarily targets students and recent graduates from the ULPGC, aiming to foster the development of innovative projects and bring entrepreneurship closer to the university community. Of the total participants, 51 are currently pursuing undergraduate, master's, or doctoral studies, while another 8 are ULPGC alumni.
Participants come from diverse degree programs such as Business Administration, Economics, Law, Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Biotechnology, Marine Sciences, Education, and Physical Activity and Sports Science, fostering the exchange of experiences and the generation of proposals from different perspectives.
The initial sessions focused on the Idea Generation module, where participants engaged in practical dynamics and tools. Those with a business idea refined it, while newcomers worked in teams to explore solutions based on knowledge generated at the ULPGC.
Training will continue with a module on teamwork and the development of personal and interpersonal skills (soft skills). The program, running from October to December 2026, includes 24 hours of collaborative sessions and 8 hours of specialized tutoring.
Six modules will cover key aspects like business models, market research, monetization, and communication. Specialized professionals will offer guidance to analyze project viability. The program will conclude with a Demo Day, where the most developed projects can compete for the two 1,500 euro prizes.
The «START ULPGC» project is funded by the Canarian Employment Service through a grant to the Canarian Foundation Science and Technology Park of the ULPGC. The PóSit space is funded by the DISA Foundation.
