The initiative, led by the Department of Health, included health professionals and social groups who provided information on prevention, early detection, and support resources for those affected. From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the municipal venue became a meeting point for citizens to resolve doubts with participating experts.
Nurses and midwives from the health center conducted practical workshops on breast self-examination techniques, stressing the importance of knowing one's body and attending recommended medical check-ups. They reminded attendees that self-examination does not replace early detection tests.
The Tejedores de Telde group handcrafted pink ribbons, conveying a message of solidarity. The Canarian Association of Breast and Gynecological Cancer also participated with an information booth about their work in advising and supporting patients.
The Councilor for Health, Janoa Anceaume, highlighted the importance of holding such initiatives in everyday locations like the market, emphasizing the need for year-round awareness and accurate information.
Mayor Juan Antonio Peña, accompanied by other council members, visited the facilities to thank the participating groups for their contribution. "Preventing through information from our specialists is vital to win this battle," stated the mayor.
The commemoration will continue tonight with the lighting of the municipal building El Cubillo in pink, a symbolic gesture supporting those fighting the disease, survivors, and remembering those who have passed away.
