The Telde City Council has completed the urbanization works in the Arauz sector, ending a project paralyzed since 2002 and enabling the development of approximately 1,000 homes.

After nearly 25 years of administrative, economic, and technical paralysis, the Telde City Council, through its Department of Roads and Works, has finalized the urbanization works in the Arauz sector. This action completes the urbanization of a 111,000 square meter area, conceived as an extension of the neighborhoods of San Gregorio, Picachos, and Arauz, and which will allow for the construction of approximately 1,000 public and private homes.
The project, executed by the company Hermanos García Álamo, S.L.U., involved a total investment of 2,050,000 euros, co-financed by the City Council's own funds (1,050,000 euros) and a contribution from the Canary Islands Housing Institute (1,000,000 euros). The works included road paving, sidewalk construction, and the installation of sanitation, rainwater collection, water supply, and telecommunications networks.
The project, originating from the 1986 General Urban Planning Plan, has overcome numerous obstacles over four decades. The works were halted in March 2002, with approximately 10% of the total execution remaining. The new municipal intervention has resumed pending tasks and adapted urban services to current needs.
The Councilor for Roads and Works, Iván Sánchez, highlighted the importance of resolving a historical issue for the municipality's residential development. Meanwhile, the mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, celebrated the completion of the work, emphasizing the opportunities it offers to facilitate housing access, especially for young people and families.
