The Telde Local Government Board has approved the update and regularization of the Municipal Market premises, ensuring the continuity of 22 merchants and preparing for the opening of 21 vacant stalls.

The Telde Local Government Board, meeting this Wednesday, has taken a decisive step for the present and future of the Municipal Market by unanimously approving the update and regularization of the premises and their holders. This action allows progress in the reorganization of the facility and preparations for its reopening.
One of the aspects that most concerned current stallholders in the Narea multipurpose area was the continuity of their activity in the Municipal Market, as well as the legal status of their concessions. Most of these relationships date back to 1986, when merchants moved from the old market on Calle Argentina to the building on Calle Poeta Pablo Neruda.
Following the corresponding legal reports and administrative review procedures, the Local Government Board has declared the concessions for 22 stalls valid, guaranteeing the continuity of their holders in the market once it reopens. At the same time, it has agreed to make another 21 stalls available. The City Council will initiate the procedure for granting new authorizations with the aim of the market opening with the highest possible commercial occupancy, with the call for applications to be published in the coming days.
The decision also incorporates the preferences expressed by the holders themselves for relocation within the market. The City Council has listened to the sector's proposals and updated the distribution of stalls to favor a more functional organization and concentrate commercial activity on a single floor. Merchants occupying spaces on the second floor will move to the first, and those with separate stalls will be able to group them in the same area, aiming to improve market operations and offer a more comfortable and accessible experience for citizens.
“

"This is a fundamental step to recover our Municipal Market and provide security to those who have been working in it for so many years. We have listened to the sector, addressed their concerns, and sought solutions through dialogue and consensus."

Juan Antonio Peña · Mayor of Telde
The Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, highlighted the importance of this agreement and thanked the merchants for their collaboration and willingness during the process. He stated, 'When we work together, listening to people and seeking agreements, we advance much further. The market is part of our history and our commercial identity, and we want its reopening to be a real opportunity for current vendors and for new professionals who wish to develop their activity here.'
Peña emphasized that the municipal objective is to move forward with legal guarantees, organize the spaces, and prepare a market with activity, services, and future prospects, not just to open the building's doors but to do so with organized stalls, supported merchants, and the best possible conditions to recover this space as a meeting point and economic driver.
In parallel, the City Council is working on the electrical connection, expected to conclude in approximately two weeks, a necessary step for the report from the General Directorate of Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands. Additionally, minor work will be undertaken to repair the building's roof, which will not affect the market's opening. With the unanimously approved agreement, stall regularization, the upcoming authorization call, and ongoing technical work, Telde is advancing in the recovery of one of its most emblematic commercial spaces.
