The Telde City Council has announced that the murga group Los Nietos de SaryManchez will receive the city's Medal for Cultural Merit at an institutional gala on Saturday, November 7th, in San Juan square.

The group was chosen by the council's Honors and Distinctions Committee to be recognized for its trajectory and contribution to culture and carnival. The Mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and the Councilor for Culture, Juan Martel, personally conveyed the city's congratulations to the murga's representatives, including its president, Juan Diego Ramírez; vice-president, Cristo Morales; and artistic director, Rubén Santana.
During the meeting, municipal officials expressed their satisfaction with this recognition, which will add the name of Los Nietos de SaryManchez to the list of entities and individuals distinguished by the city. The mayor highlighted the murga's work and dedication in keeping the murguera tradition alive and carrying Telde's name across carnival stages.
For his part, Councilor for Culture, Juan Martel, emphasized the importance of honoring groups that actively participate in popular Canarian culture through music, creativity, and the characteristic critique of murgas. The distinction also comes after the group won second prize for Interpretation in the 2026 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival Murga Contest.
The Honors and Distinctions gala, where the medal will be presented, will take place at 8:00 PM in San Juan square. This event will hold special significance as it coincides with the commemoration of the 675th anniversary of Telde's founding, as part of the patron saint festivities of San Gregorio Taumaturgo.
