The Carnival's artistic director, Enrique Camacho, along with the Councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, has revealed details for the upcoming edition, themed around the Imperial Rome. The main objective is for the gala to showcase the power of the groups that make up the festival, also commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first themed festival, which was precisely Rome.
One of the highlights will be the recreation of a joint performance by the rondallas, similar to one performed at the bullring in 1987. Under the musical direction of maestro Israel Espino, winner of last edition's first prize for Interpretation, the aim is to evoke the essence of that performance.
The murgas will also present a joint number, fulfilling a key demand from the collective. They will perform as a single formation, reclaiming their style and singing live, beyond a recorded musical base. This proposal has garnered support from figures like Alexis Hernández, master of ceremonies, and lyricists Raquel García and Gara García.
The lyrics for the murgas' performance will focus on the evolution of the musical genre over the past forty years. Children's murgas will also revive a joint number that previously propelled Enrique Camacho to the artistic director role in 2015.
Meanwhile, the comparsas are in a dispute with the organization regarding the cap of ten formations, risking the exclusion of groups like Bella Mariana. The absence of representatives from several comparsas at the meeting was attributed to various reasons, including holidays and late invitations.
The artistic direction has made it clear that the gala aims to be an exhibition of the groups' power and strength, potentially making it the edition with the highest number of participants in history.
