Canary Islands Health Increases Allowances for Patients and Companions

The regional government increases aid for accommodation and maintenance by 41.18% for patients requiring inter-island healthcare.

The Department of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has increased by 41.18% the allowances for accommodation and maintenance for patients and their companions who need to receive healthcare outside their island of residence.

This measure, which had not been updated since 2018 and was included in the budgets for an update in 2026, will come into effect tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15, following its publication today in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).
The daily allowance per person for accommodation increases by 62%, from 65.97 euros to 106.94 euros. Meanwhile, the maintenance allowance grows by 4%, from 37.40 euros to 39 euros per person per day.
This total increase of 41.18% means that the combined daily allowances for accommodation and maintenance rise from 103.37 euros per person per day to 145.94 euros.
Additionally, according to this order, for uninterrupted long-term stays, the maximum amount of accommodation and maintenance expenses to be paid per person from the third month onwards will be 1,900 euros per month.
