The Municipal Urban Planning Management has re-issued the tender for security work on the property, located on the southwest coast. This decision comes in response to the building's «extreme danger», which has been the scene of several fatal accidents, including that of a minor last December.
“"We are confident that this time we will be able to find a company to carry out these works, with the aim of closing off the current accesses to the unfinished property."
The head of the Urban Planning department explained that, unlike the previous procedure, this new tender is open to all companies, not just those included in the management's framework contract. The total budget for the works amounts to 112,360 euros, with an estimated completion period of two months. Interested companies have until May 22 to submit their proposals.
The planned actions include eliminating access to the path bordering the fence and to the sixth floor of the building, demolishing staircases on several floors (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4), repairing the existing fencing, and grating accessible openings in the facades. These measures aim to prevent access to the building, which has been abandoned for over half a century.
In parallel with these security works, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council continues to advance with the demolition project for the property, for which an expropriation procedure is underway. The building, which began construction in 1973 as an aparthotel, belongs to some 900 owners, mostly German and Swiss nationals.
