The Lanzarote Insular Water Consortium has started billing over 77,000 customers for water consumption, maintaining current tariffs and seeking to optimize energy costs.

Five weeks after the integral water cycle was taken over, the Insular Water Consortium has announced it is ready to begin issuing consumption bills. According to island president Oswaldo Betancort, this measure will benefit over 77,000 customers who will no longer have to pay Canal Gestión Lanzarote.
The bills will be distributed this week and next, maintaining the tariffs that have been in effect for the past few years. "We are not going to update water prices," stated Betancort, adding that "possibly, until the economic report is completed, they will remain the same."
The revenue generated will be used to cover expenses such as payroll payments, which were already met with the Consortium's own funds, and to finalize contracts. In parallel, measures will be taken to normalize supply and reduce water outages.
The operational start-up of a new line to supply water to the northern part of the island late last month was positively assessed by the president.
Energy supply currently accounts for "40%" of the direct expenditure in the integral water cycle. Therefore, plans are in place to optimize the production from wind farms, with special attention to the wind turbines located near the Punta de Los Vientos desalination plants. This will lead to economic savings and the significant added benefit of reducing atmospheric impact by lowering the level of polluting gas emissions.
Until these objectives are achieved, the relationship with the current energy supplier will be maintained.
Additionally, new digital information and citizen service channels are being launched this week, with the previous ones becoming inoperative. The customer service (928-814400) and breakdown (900-504400; 636-673604) numbers remain active.
