The selection process for teachers in Canarias has generated significant interest, with an average of eleven applicants for each of the 686 available positions. However, this figure conceals substantial disparities among the different specialties.
The Early Childhood Education specialty stands out for its high demand, accounting for 35.5% of all applications. With 2,688 applicants for only 110 positions, competition is fierce, reaching an average of 24 candidates per post, the highest in the entire process.
“"This year's offer of teaching positions will not help reduce the very high rate of temporary employment among public school teachers in Canarias, which is the highest of all autonomous communities and exceeds 30%."
Other specialties with significant competition include Physical Education, with 11.8 applicants per position (767 applications for 65 posts), and Therapeutic Pedagogy, with 10 applicants per position (1,203 applications for 120 positions).
Conversely, Primary Education has the largest offering, with 215 positions, attracting 1,884 applicants, resulting in an average of 9 candidates per post. In English, 519 applications have been admitted for 91 positions (5.7 applicants per position), while French shows the least competition, with 4.3 applicants per position (100 applications for 23 positions).
One of the novelties of this call is that each applicant can only apply for one specialty. Furthermore, the prior presentation act is maintained, and the exam will be divided into two parts, with a subsequent individual reading before the tribunal, aiming for a more thorough evaluation of the future teachers' knowledge and skills.
