The Fuerteventura Island Council has awarded 4 million euros for the Lajares Travesía works, a project aimed at boosting safety and accessibility on the FV-109 road.

The intervention, developed in coordination with the La Oliva Town Hall, has a ten-month execution period. The president of the Fuerteventura Island Council, Lola García, and the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, signed the prior expropriation deeds necessary for the commencement of the work, a process that also involved affected property owners.
Driven by the Island Council's Roads Department, led by Blas Acosta, the project was awarded to the company Obras Públicas Canarias S.L. The intervention addresses the increase in traffic and pedestrian activity in the area.

"These actions have a direct effect on the quality of life of the population."

Island President Lola García highlighted the importance of continuously improving Fuerteventura's road network, emphasizing its direct impact on residents' quality of life and the value of inter-administrative collaboration for enhancing roads and dirt tracks.
The works include the construction of new sidewalks, the installation of traffic lights, and improved lighting. Architectural barriers will be removed through adapted ramps and new pedestrian crossings, facilitating pedestrian mobility and upgrading the sanitation network.
The project will cover an area of approximately 25,600 square meters on Coronel González del Hierro street, along the FV-109 section between kilometer points 3+940 and 5+050. The goal is to regenerate the urban space and optimize traffic flow and accessibility.
