Eight people have lost their lives in traffic accidents on the roads of the Canary Islands during the month of June, representing a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the road safety report from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), 8 fatalities were recorded on Canarian roads in June, which is 6 more deaths than in June of last year. This increase is fundamentally attributed to a rise in highly injurious accidents and a concentration of days with very high mortality.
Six accidents involving three or more fatalities were recorded, accounting for 21 of the 51 additional national fatalities compared to the previous year. Nationally, June saw 142 deaths, 52 more than in the same month of 2025, marking the highest figure for a June since 2010 and breaking the trend of road accident reduction maintained in the first five months of the year.
Despite this specific increase, the year-to-date cumulative from January 1st to June 30th shows a downward trend. In this semester, 464 fatal accidents have occurred on Spanish roads, with a total of 501 deaths, representing 19 fewer than in the same period of 2025.
