The oral storytelling cycle Candil de Cuentos returns to the courtyard of the El Portón Municipal Library in Antigua for its sixth edition, establishing itself as a prominent cultural event in the Majorero municipality. Sessions will take place every Friday in October at 7:30 PM, with this year's program extended to five weekends.
The initiative, launched six years ago, utilizes oral storytelling as a means for adult audiences to connect and embark on imaginary journeys. The lineup includes storytellers from the Canary Islands and an international guest from Mexico, who will open the cycle. According to Gema G., the project's driving force, live word will be used to explore various spaces, places, and times.

In addition to the storytelling sessions, the program features the 'Jueves Candileros' (Candilero Thursdays), a creative writing workshop for adults. In its third edition, it is named Fuerteventura entre Renglones (Fuerteventura Between Lines) and combines creative writing with photography to explore the island's collective memory. Participants are encouraged to generate short stories inspired by their imagination and Fuerteventura's history.
The Antigua City Council has reaffirmed its institutional support for the cycle. The mayor expressed pride in the event, which originated in the municipality six years ago, and acknowledged Gema G.'s role as its promoter. The Culture Department highlighted the cycle's sustained growth, with five storytelling sessions this year, one more than in previous editions, underscoring their commitment to cultural diversity.
The cycle is positioning itself as a benchmark for oral storytelling in Fuerteventura, blending tradition, creativity, and an international perspective, inviting the adult community to rediscover the transformative power of words.
