The San Mateo City Council will close the Hoya Viciosa car park next Tuesday, complying with a court order to cease its use as a parking facility, a measure criticized by the mayor.

The municipality of San Mateo will proceed with the closure of the Hoya Viciosa car park, located in the urban center, starting next Tuesday. This decision follows an order issued by the Court Number 1 of the Contentious-Administrative Court of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which has given five calendar days to cease the use of the land as a parking lot.
Mayor Davinia Falcón confirmed that Monday will be the last day of operation, during which warning signs will be posted for regular users. The deadline to comply with the judicial order is next Friday, June 10th, with the threat of coercive fines and potential criminal liability for non-compliance.
Falcón described the judicial decision as "detrimental to the municipality," arguing that the car park is used daily by hundreds of residents and visitors, and its closure will significantly reduce available parking options.

"It is malicious"

The mayor considers the closure to be "malicious," as keeping the car park open should not hinder the processing of the Hoya Viciosa Partial Plan, whose urban development procedures the council has also resumed due to judicial mandate. Currently, the City Council is reviewing the latest submission of the urbanization project, commissioned by the council, to ensure it meets the required specifications after two previous requests.
