The Canarian Mountain Federation (Fecamon) has expressed its support for the dissemination of this edition of Mendi Tour Canarias, a traveling film series dedicated to mountains, adventure, and nature. This collaboration highlights the entity's commitment to promoting the values associated with these disciplines, conveyed through the works selected for the festival.
The Mendi Tour is an extension of the prestigious Mendi Film, bringing a carefully curated selection of the best films from the latest BBK Mendi Film Bilbao-Bizkaia edition, as well as highly requested titles from its archives, across Spain. The initiative in Teror is promoted by the Teror City Council, the sports club Jotaland, and the cultural association Cima Gran Canaria.
Starting at 8:00 PM, attendees will be able to enjoy a series of short films and documentaries exploring adventure and personal achievement in natural environments. The session will feature the presence of Jabier Baraiazarra, director of the Bilbao festival, who will provide context for the screenings.
Among the scheduled works are K2 Mon Amour, awarded in the mountaineering category at the Bilbao festival, which recounts the ascent of Liv Sansoz and Zeb Roche to the second highest mountain on Earth. Also to be screened is Cantos y Flores, recognized in the sports and adventure section, focusing on runners Karina Carsolio and Hillary Gerardi in the peaks of Bolivia.
The program is completed with Aldabide, a documentary about the descent into the Itxina massif by speleodiving specialists, and Dear Superhero, which addresses the motherhood of skier Janina Kuzma in the Southern Alps. Additionally, Retro, a documentary about the discipline of walking backward in mountains like Kilimanjaro, and Un día al año, which recovers the history of the Carnival of Atxarte, a tradition documented among the climbing community, will be shown.
This collaborative project aims to bring mountain culture closer to Canarian society, uniting the Teror City Council and Fecamon with the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as sports equipment agencies and brands. To manage capacity, a pre-booking system with a five-euro deposit, refundable after the event, has been implemented to ensure attendance.
The cultural proposal is complemented by an educational day focused on the archipelago's identity. On Thursday, May 28, the Teror Secondary School will host a colloquium led by Isidoro Falcón, representative of the Cima Gran Canaria Cultural Association, who will discuss the conservation of natural heritage. During this activity, the documentary Jurria, Guardianes del Garrote, which participated in the 2020 edition of the Basque festival, will be screened, showcasing the practice of the Canarian Shepherd's Leap to bring this legacy to the student and local community.
