The neighborhood of El Zumacal, in Valleseco, is commemorating the 41st anniversary of the Carmen Festivities, its patron saint, with an extensive program of events taking place this Thursday and throughout the weekend. The celebration combines religious services with cultural and leisure activities for all audiences.
The events begin this Thursday with a solemn mass at 7:00 PM. Following the religious ceremony, the square will host the neighborhood theater play "Blanco radiante llama a su puerta" (Radiant White Knocks on Your Door), a comedy under the slogan "It's all about housewives and seduction." On Friday, starting at 8:30 PM, the traditional Noche Parrandera (Folk Music Night) is being revived with the participation of Los Labradores de Valleseco, El Pajullo, and Los Parranderos de Firgas, focusing on traditional Canarian music. A popular 'tenderete' (traditional gathering) is also being organized, inviting attendees to wear traditional Canarian attire and share food and drinks.
Saturday will be dedicated to children starting at 10:00 AM with a children's morning organized by Vivac Aventura, featuring inflatable castles and face painting. In the evening, at 8:30 PM, comedian Maestro Florido will perform, followed by a 'verbena' (street party) by the group 5Bertura, a photo booth, and a set by DJ Chechu.
Sunday, July 19th, the main day of the neighborhood, will focus on the primary sector and rural traditions. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy donkey rides. One of the significant revivals is the cattle fair, which will host the second round of the I Copa Ordeñador Valleseco 2026 (Valleseco Milking Cup 2026). This competition aims to revive the tradition of manual milking, pay homage to generations of former farmers, and promote generational change.
The competition involves manually milking a cow for one minute, with the winner being the one who obtains the greatest weight of milk. The Agrupación Folclórica Los Labradores de Valleseco will accompany the Canarian mass, followed by the procession of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Santa Ana, and the Virgen Niña. The festivities will conclude with a cattle parade, the traditional foam party, and the awards ceremony.
