The decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, activating the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA). Rainfall of up to 20 millimeters per hour is predicted, especially during afternoons and early mornings.
The most intense rains are expected in the highlands and midlands of northern and eastern Gran Canaria, as well as in the midlands and high areas of northern, northeastern, and southern Tenerife and El Hierro. In these areas, precipitation could be persistent, reaching accumulations of up to 40 millimeters in 12 hours in Gran Canaria.
Rainfall is also expected in the northern and eastern midlands of La Palma, and in the midlands and high areas of northern La Gomera, although the occurrence of high-intensity precipitation is less likely on these islands. Occasional thunderstorms are not ruled out.
The General Directorate of Emergencies urges the public to follow the self-protection advice available on its website.
