The local administration has welcomed the fact that the Canary Islands Health Service has finally recognized the need for this health infrastructure. However, the council has expressed its rejection of the proposal to start a new drafting process from scratch, considering that this measure would mean an unnecessary delay for a long-standing neighborhood demand.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands and external technicians recently visited the plot provided by the municipality. This location was a subject of debate in the past, having been questioned by other island and regional institutions, although it is now confirmed as the appropriate site for the future center.
“"Proposing a new project now means unnecessarily prolonging the deadlines for an infrastructure highly demanded by the public. The municipality has already ceded the land, has a drafted technical project, and has carried out the necessary urban planning modifications."
The Urban Planning department has recalled that the technical project is already prepared and that all required urban planning procedures have been completed. Therefore, the municipal government team is calling for political will to prevent the execution of the work from being delayed for years, urging the Ministry of Health to take advantage of the administrative work already carried out.
The population growth experienced by Playa Honda in recent years has left the current clinic unable to meet the healthcare needs of the residents. The new center would allow for the expansion of services and improve the quality of healthcare in the area.
