The San Bartolomé City Council will urge that the decision of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) regarding the telecommunications antenna in Güime, which has been declared illegal, be enforced. The dismantling of the structure will be requested, regardless of any potential appeals against the ruling, according to municipal sources.
The TSJC ruling, already notified to the parties, accepts the arguments presented by the City Council, which align with the views of the residents of Güime. The judgment dismisses the claims of the antenna's operator, American Tower España.
Mayor Isidro Pérez stated that "this sentence confirms that the City Council acted responsibly and rigorously," with solid grounds from 2020 onwards, when the license request became known.
In late April 2025, residents of Güime witnessed the installation of the main structure of a telecommunications antenna. A mobilization process immediately began to protest the event, citing potential health risks.
Concurrently, the San Bartolomé City Council took action to demand the dismantling. Residents submitted hundreds of signatures to various official bodies to support their claim, as documented by CANARIAS7.
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, explained that the Urban Planning Office of the San Bartolomé City Council will now proceed with the legality restoration file for the antenna's deinstallation, an order that had previously been halted by the courts.
