The Fuerteventura Island Council, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, and GDR Maxorata, have organized a new training initiative aimed at the island's primary sector. The course, focused on basic level phytosanitary product handling, will be held at the Cultural Center of the Valley of Santa Inés, located in Betancuria.
The training will take place from September 28th to October 2nd, with a total duration of 25 hours. Classes will be held in the afternoon, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It will be taught by Lidia Castañeda Casañas, an agricultural technical engineer, with the participation of Almudena Rodríguez Navarro, a nursing graduate, for the health-related section.
This initiative is part of the subsidies for the GDR Maxorata's own projects for 2026-2027, within the Participatory Local Development Strategy for the island of Fuerteventura. The activity costs are co-financed by 80% from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), 6% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAPA), and 14% by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Agriculture.
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Fuerteventura Island Council, chaired by councilor Enrique Pérez Brito, co-finances the management and operating expenses of GDR Maxorata. This collaboration reinforces the commitment to training for the island's primary sector and supports the GDR's role as a collaborating entity for managing Leader rural development aid. The Betancuria City Council also collaborates in this action.
