The Works and Machinery Service of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura is continuing the rehabilitation of the Fuente de Manitaga and its associated traditional heritage in the municipality of Tuineje. The social interest this project has generated prompts a request for "patience" from visitors to avoid interfering with the work crews, which will extend for several more weeks.
This final phase of the project, driven by the Works and Machinery Service of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through Gesplan and in collaboration with the Insular Water Council of Fuerteventura (Ciaf), aims to recover and enhance this heritage linked to the agricultural, hydraulic, and ethnographic landscape of the municipality and the island, as Manitaga is a significant exponent of Fuerteventura's water culture.
The specialized crew is working on restoring pre-existing dry stone walls, improving the path with accessibility criteria, and working on the spring itself by removing sediment to facilitate natural water flow. Thanks to these efforts in removing flood materials deposited in the old reservoir, the natural spring emerging from the mountain is now visible, attracting the interest of residents from Tuineje.
The Fuente de Manitaga represents not only a historical space but also a meeting point for the collective memory of Fuerteventura and Tuineje, associated with water culture, the heroic agriculture developed under these principles, and the traditional landscape and idiosyncrasy that have shaped the island's population over centuries.
