The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced 13 individuals to prison terms ranging from nine months to one year and nine months. The charges include drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal organization, and cooperating with it. In addition to the prison sentences, the convicted individuals must pay fines ranging from 1,100 euros to 55,000 euros.
Six of the convicted individuals were part of the criminal gang dedicated to drug trafficking in Fuerteventura, which operated at least between February 2018 and January 2019. The remaining individuals cooperated with this illicit structure. During the court hearing, only five of the 13 convicted were physically present, while the others appeared remotely.
The highest penalties, one year and nine months in prison and a 55,000 euro fine for drug trafficking, along with one year for belonging to a criminal organization, were accepted by several key figures. Other convicted individuals received one year and two months in prison for drug trafficking and nine months for cooperation, with fines ranging from 6,000 to 30,000 euros.
The prosecution's case, which has been proven, details that on February 14, 2018, law enforcement agents first seized narcotics sold by members of this criminal organization. Several transactions were intercepted throughout 2018, including the seizure of nearly 200 grams of cocaine valued at 8,500 euros on the illicit market, and later, on December 10, over 400 grams of cocaine with a value of 23,675 euros.
Following these operations, on January 10, 2019, searches and raids were carried out at the homes of the members of the illicit association. During these searches, quantities of drugs, primarily cocaine prepared for distribution, as well as ingredients for its production, cutting and weighing instruments, cash, mobile phones, and vehicles acquired with drug trafficking profits were seized.
