The event will bring together more than 50 boats and will combine competition, tourism, and a firm commitment to protecting the marine environment. This event has established itself as one of the major offshore fishing events in Fuerteventura, boosting activity in the municipality and on the island.
The presentation was attended by officials including the first vice-president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Nuria Cabrera, who highlighted the honor of supporting this event reaching 30 years of history and reiterated the institution's support. The mayor of Tuineje, David Herrera, emphasized the event's solidity, representing sport, tradition, economy, and tourism.
The Director General of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esteban Cipriano, stressed the importance of sustainable fishing and the tagging and release of specimens for resource conservation. Also participating were the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Enrique Pérez, and the Councilor for Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, who highlighted the event's tourist dimension and its contribution to the island's annual offerings.
From the Faro de La Entallada Fishing Club, José Ramón Figueroa thanked the efforts of the individuals, companies, and institutions that have kept the event alive for three decades, and encouraged citizens to visit the port.
This year's edition will have a special character due to its thirtieth anniversary, with an enhanced program of activities to boost its social dimension. The Open maintains its philosophy of balancing sports practice with respect for the sea, through actions linked to environmental conservation.
The event is supported by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Government of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura Tourism Board, the Ayuntamiento de Tuineje, and Puertos Canarios.
