A man has died this Thursday after being rescued from the sea at La Escalera beach, in the municipality of La Oliva (Fuerteventura), while another person who was also in distress managed to get out of the water unaided, according to information from Emergencias 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The incident occurred at 5:20 PM, when the coordination center activated the response after receiving an alert about the situation of both bathers.
Rescuers from the helicopter of the Grupo de Emergencias y Salvamento (GES) located and hoisted the affected individual into the aircraft. Upon finding him in cardiorespiratory arrest, they performed resuscitation maneuvers during his transfer to a nearby land area.
Healthcare personnel continued assistance on site without success, only confirming the death. The other affected individual declined transfer to a health center after receiving attention.
Helicopters and ambulances from the SUC and GES, medical staff from the Local Health Center of El Cotillo, members of Salvamento Marítimo, the Beach Lifesaving Service of La Oliva, Civil Protection, the fire departments of La Oliva, and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, as well as officers from the Local Police and the Guardia Civil, participated in the emergency and security operation. The latter is responsible for the corresponding investigation.
