Fuerteventura Celebrates Tourism Awards in Betancuria

The Fuerteventura Island Council will hold the 2026 Fuerteventura Tourism Distinguished Awards Gala on September 25th in the historic center of Betancuria, recognizing the work of companies and professionals in the sector.
The Fuerteventura Island Council, through the Insular Tourism Board, is organizing the 2026 Fuerteventura Tourism Distinguished Awards Gala on Friday, September 25th. The event will take place in the emblematic historic center of Betancuria, specifically in the Plaza de Santa María de Betancuria, from 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The ceremony will bring together prominent figures from the island's tourism sector to honor those who have driven the destination's development, quality, and sustainability.
Betancuria, a municipality with rich heritage, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1979 and recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain since 2020, hosts this gala, which has not been held in the town since 2009. The Distinguished Awards, also known as Golden Beaches, are the highest institutional recognition for tourism in Fuerteventura and have been awarded uninterruptedly since 1986.
This year's awardees include: Agualoe S.L. receives the Company award for its contribution to tourism quality. Raúl Dávila Falcón is honored with the Individual Trajectory award for his outstanding professional career. Sönke Schallmey receives the Blue Destination Fuerteventura award for his commitment to the marine environment. Uwe Krug is recognized in the Client category for his loyalty as a returning tourist. Lastly, Santiago Travieso Quintana receives a Special Mention from the Insular Tourism Board posthumously for his contribution to the island's tourism.
