The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands Basketball Federation have launched the second edition of the 'Encestando Futuros' program in Fuerteventura, combining sports training and personal development for U12 and U14 girls.

The initiative aims to foster girls' continued involvement in sports, offering them new learning and growth opportunities through training sessions led by coaches from the Canary Islands Basketball Federation. These sessions focus on both technical and tactical aspects of the game, as well as building confidence, team cohesion, and motivation.
The training sessions will be itinerant across different municipalities on the island throughout the season, running from November 2026 to June 2027, with a total of 20 sessions planned. The program also includes tools to monitor participants' technical and attitudinal evolution and actions to train more female coaches.
The insular Minister of Sports, Luis González, highlighted the importance of continuing this project, enabling young athletes to improve their skills and explore other facets of basketball, such as coaching.
For his part, the president of the Canary Islands Basketball Federation, Carlos Olano, thanked the Cabildo for its collaboration and emphasized that the project allows girls to train with different techniques, viewing sports as a way of life and a support for their education and development over the years.
Eu Etopa, one of the coaches involved, explained that the goal is for all girls to have opportunities within basketball and to help them avoid abandoning sports practice, thereby reinforcing their connection with the sport and providing them with female role models.
