The Plenary Session of the Fuerteventura Island Council has given the green light to the project for the improvement of the FV-20 road as it passes through the locality of Agua de Bueyes, in the municipality of Antigua. The works, which will soon be put out to tender, have a base budget of almost 300,000 euros.
The insular president, Lola García, has underlined the importance of these actions for the road network, stating that they "positively impact the quality of life for the people of Fuerteventura". She recalled that the Island Council has allocated 16 million euros to improve more than 120 kilometers of insular roads, including works such as the Lajares crossing and this project for road safety and accessibility in Agua de Bueyes.
García also highlighted the coordination with the Antigua City Council on this initiative promoted by the Department of Roads, led by Blas Acosta. The current section lacks a regulated pedestrian crossing and a continuous accessible route, making intervention necessary. A significant increase in the average daily traffic intensity has been observed, exceeding 5,000 vehicles.
The intervention includes the implementation of a traffic-light-controlled pedestrian crossing with speed reducers to improve vehicle circulation and pedestrian protection. It will also incorporate safe pedestrian routes, improved road signage and lighting, as well as the reconstruction of retaining walls.
