A total of 17 employees are participating in the 'Memoria Viva 2025' plan, promoted by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, for the recovery of heritage and historical sites spread across the island. The initiative has an investment of 472,000 euros, co-financed by the Department of Employment Promotion and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Fund (Fdcan).
The work is coordinated with Museums of Fuerteventura and local town councils. Currently, teams are focused on cleaning, exterior painting, and environmental adaptation of the churches in Tetir (Puerto del Rosario) and Antigua. Restoration work on the windmill in Los Valles de Ortega, also in Antigua, was recently completed.
In the municipality of La Oliva, maintenance tasks are being carried out at the Casa Alta de Tindaya, including cleaning, painting, carpentry restoration, and interior courtyard improvements. In the south of the island, in Pájara, the plan has acted on the interpretation center of the Jandía Natural Park-Punta de Jandía Lighthouse, improving access and enhancing the surroundings.
These actions have extended to over twenty locations. According to Nuria Cabrera, Minister of Employment Promotion, the project focuses on the rehabilitation of public spaces such as museums, cultural centers, and other historical sites. Employment plans, promoted by the Cabildo, aim to facilitate the labor insertion of groups facing difficulties, with a total investment of 17.5 million euros since the beginning of the legislature.
