The Association of Fuerteventura Winemakers El Majuelo has taken a significant step in preserving the island's native grape variety. Recently, a technical talk on the ampelographic study of the Majorera grape was held, concluding with the delivery of reproduced cuttings of this variety to the association's members.
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura collaborated in this initiative, which took place at the experimental farm in Pozo Negro. Councilor Enrique Pérez highlighted the importance of this distribution, calling it "one more step to preserve and extend this variety".
Pérez emphasized the unique value of the Majorera grape, stating that "Our Majorera grape is unique in the world and is perfectly adapted to the wind, heat, and aridity of Fuerteventura." The ultimate goal is to complete the process to obtain its official recognition and registration as a variety that is native and exclusive to the island.
