The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and representatives from Red Eléctrica have met to coordinate the dismantling of the old 66kV power line between Corralejo and Matas Blancas. The island's president, Lola García, and the Minister of Territorial Planning, Nereida Calero, met with Red Eléctrica executives to discuss the process details, which are conditioned by environmental and construction criteria.
Lola García highlighted that this is the largest dismantling of an electrical line in the Archipelago, emphasizing the importance of coordination for its removal, now that the works have been awarded, and ensuring maximum respect for the environment. The Cabildo commits to full administrative collaboration, with the support of local councils, to expedite authorizations and permits.
Nereida Calero, for her part, stressed the importance of returning the occupied land to its natural state, not only for its impact on the landscape and biodiversity but also so that affected residents can regain the use of the land after a long wait.
Red Eléctrica representatives announced that the dismantling will commence in early next year, following the completion of administrative procedures. Preventive and corrective environmental measures will be implemented to minimize impacts and restore the land to its original condition.
The works, which will last 18 months and affect the municipalities of La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, Antigua, Tuineje, and Pájara, involve the removal of 352 pylons, conductor and earth wires, dismantling of structures, destruction of foundations, and removal of surplus civil works materials. Prior to this, Red Eléctrica will inform landowners in conjunction with the Cabildo and other administrations.
