The Government of the Canary Islands, via the Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), has presented its 2026 Action Program, which includes an investment of 13,874,613.50 euros aimed at strengthening the Information Society on the islands. This axis seeks to consolidate the knowledge ecosystem and facilitate citizens' access to and use of digital technologies.
The investment is directed towards extending digital capabilities, reinforcing technological infrastructures and services, and enabling citizens, companies, and public entities to leverage the opportunities offered by digital transformation. These actions aim to reduce digital and territorial divides, improve population training, and support the transformation of the Canary economic fabric, aligning with ecological and digital transitions.
The program includes measures to enhance citizens' digital skills and promote strategic innovation projects. Key areas include digital literacy and training programs, with specific initiatives to address the gender gap. Furthermore, flagship projects such as Spain Living Lab and Retechfor will be promoted, focused on developing new technological capabilities and solutions.
Specific actions for the Canary territory are also planned, such as measures to mitigate the digital divide in Fuerteventura, support for the Canary Technology Institute (ITC) for R&D+i projects, and collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) on the Horvican project, as well as promoting the digital transformation of PLOCAN.
This axis is part of a broader strategy complemented by actions in human capital, basic and applied research, and business innovation, detailed in the ACIISI 2026 Action Program, which is publicly available on the agency's website.
