Stage under construction at Arguineguín pier for the papal visit.

The Arguineguín pier is transforming to welcome Pope Leo XIV on June 11th, for a symbolic event with migrants.

Construction of the stage for one of the most symbolic events of Pope Leo XIV's visit to the Canary Islands is entering its final phase. Workers and volunteers are racing against time at the Arguineguín pier to prepare for the meeting with migrants scheduled for June 11th.
The venue, located facing the Atlantic, is taking shape amidst machinery and metal structures. The stage design, intended to evoke a large wave supported by a vertical cross-shaped element, will have the ocean as its backdrop. The family company Regasimar is executing the assembly.
Approximately 2,000 people are expected to attend the event, with about 75% being migrants. Testimonies about the African and Latin American migratory reality will be included, along with a floral offering in memory of those who lost their lives on the Atlantic route.
The choice of Arguineguín pier, a site that witnessed the 2020 migration crisis, aims to transform this space into a symbol of welcome, integration, and hope. According to Cáritas, around 110 people are involved in organizing the event, which seeks to project a message of peace and solidarity.
