The Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) has published for the first time data from the System for Autonomy and Dependency Care (SAAD) broken down by island, offering a detailed view of applications, resolutions, and benefits across the archipelago.

The new monthly island statistical series, available since June 2025, allows for the analysis of the dependency situation in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. The data originates from the IMSERSO and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, and Families.
Aspects such as registered applications by sex and age, degree resolutions, individuals with an Individual Care Plan (PIA), benefits by type and degree, and average management time are detailed. This breakdown is crucial in a fragmented territory like the Canary Islands, enabling the assessment of needs and guiding service planning.
In September 2026, the Dependency waiting list stood at 734 people (over six months without resolution), a decrease from 898 in August and 10,577 in September 2025. The average time to receive a benefit after application submission has dropped to 214 days, compared to 250 the previous month and 478 a year ago.
The system shows growth with 91,922 registered applications, a 17.8% increase from the previous year. 58.5% are women and 41% are individuals aged 80 or over. There are 89,676 active degree resolutions and 79,828 people with a PIA, a 37.6% increase since September 2025.
In total, 100,565 benefits have been recognized, of which 84,876 (84.4%) are effective. The most frequent is the economic benefit for care within the family environment (35,533). Tenerife (48,342) and Gran Canaria (38,646) account for the majority of benefits.
