Canary Islands basketball legend Carmelo Cabrera has expressed deep concern over CB Gran Canaria's relegation and identifies Miguel Ángel Ramírez as the ideal solution for the club's management.

Carmelo Cabrera, an emblematic figure in Canary Islands basketball, has voiced his pain and disappointment following CB Gran Canaria's drop to the Primera FEB league. The former player, who developed at the club and had a successful career with Real Madrid, believes the season was a failure, citing a lack of cohesion and ego control within the team, and describing the management model as "disastrous".
Cabrera warns that an immediate promotion will be "very complicated" and regrets the club's lack of roots, which he predicts will lead to a "stampede" of players. He criticizes the current management, including that of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and its Sports Counselor, Aridany Romero, whom he accuses of lacking involvement.
As a proposal to revive the entity, Cabrera suggests that the Cabildo should limit itself to providing funding and leave sports management to professionals. In this regard, he strongly supports Miguel Ángel Ramírez, a successful businessman and current president of UD Las Palmas, as the ideal candidate to lead the club, drawing a parallel with the Baskonia model.
Finally, the former player criticizes the "eternal hibernation of the youth academy," questioning the one million euro investment allocated to it and the lack of qualified professionals to train young talents, citing examples like Fran Guerra and Aldama.
