The Civil Guard, National Police, and the Deputy Directorate of Customs Surveillance (DAVA) of the Canary Islands have carried out a coordinated action that has allowed the dismantling of a drug trafficking network. The shipment, amounting to approximately 400 kilograms of hashish, was landed by a boat on the night of August 11 near the fishing pier of Castillo del Romeral.
The operation, named Babagaya, began in early July after police forces detected coinciding information about the use of this coastal area as an entry point for narcotics. The drugs were intended for distribution within the archipelago or for transport to the Iberian Peninsula.
Civil Guard agents became aware that an organization allegedly involved was preparing a new landing during the week of August 10. A police operation was established, which detected unusual activity near the fishing pier on the night of August 11, with the presence of several vehicles and individuals reportedly involved in receiving the shipment.
Around 11:50 PM, a semi-rigid boat reached the shore and began to be unloaded. At that moment, the acting forces intervened, secured the area, and proceeded to arrest several members of the organization. During the intervention, there was an exchange of gunfire, and several individuals attempted to flee, resulting in the final arrest of ten people and the seizure of the approximately 400 kilos of hashish.
