After eleven seasons dressing the club's colors, the relationship between CB Gran Canaria and the iconic American basketball brand Spalding has come to an end. The 'claretiano' entity has decided to embark on a new chapter with Macron, an Italian firm recognized in the sports world, which will be responsible for designing and supplying the team's kits for the next five years.
This decision comes amidst profound changes for the club, marked by its recent relegation to Primera FEB. The collaboration with Spalding spanned periods of great success, including the team's sole participation in the Euroleague and the achievement of the Eurocup. Throughout these years, Spalding became a visual hallmark for many fans, accompanying the team during its golden era.
The history between Granca and Spalding dates back to 2013, when the club, then known as Herbalife Gran Canaria, changed its supplier. Over the years, the American brand has outfitted the team during peak moments, such as the 2015 Eurocup final and the 2016 Copa del Rey runner-up finish. Spalding's designs often sought to represent the island's essence, incorporating elements like sand, sea, wind, animals, or aboriginal symbols.
It is worth noting that the club also had an interlude with Adidas between 2016 and 2018, a period during which they won the 2016 Supercopa Endesa. However, the reunion with Spalding coincided with the challenge of the Euroleague and, subsequently, with a period of ups and downs that culminated in relegation.
The last season with Spalding was marked by a sporting performance that did not live up to past successes, despite featuring attractive designs like the 'pintaderas'. The end of this long relationship occurs at a time of restructuring for CB Gran Canaria, which now looks to the future with Macron.
